LEARN MORE ABOUT SCHOOL CAMPS

Coastlife Adventures work collaboratively with schools to design, plan and deliver exceptional outdoor education programs on the south coast of New South Wales. Every program is customised to each client group with a focus on meeting curriculum outcomes and teaching essential ocean safety skills. Coastlife Adventures provide an all-inclusive service by combining transport, quality catering, comfortable accommodation and creative outdoor education activities into one complete camp package.

Coastlife Adventures have been providing exciting outdoor education experiences to students from across NSW, the ACT and Victoria for over 20 years. Client schools value the professional service, latest technology equipment and high quality catering. Coastlife Adventures have an exemplary safety record and are committed to upholding this through the continual updating of risk management resources and safety response plans.

PRIMARY SCHOOL CAMPS

Primary school camps are often the first time youngsters have left the comfort and support of their home. With this in mind each Coastlife primary program is carefully tailored to match the skill level and stamina of the specific age group.

Environmental education and important ocean safety messages are interwoven into creative outdoor activities at the beach, accommodation site and in the surrounding national parks.

PROGRAM INCLUSIONS:

Accommodation – Modern cabin accommodation is provided at a beachside location or in a peaceful bush setting.

Catering – Fresh and nutritious home-style meals are served from breakfast through to supper time. All meals are nut sensitive and separate menus are prepared for students with special dietary needs.

Transport – All transport requirements are organised by Coastlife Adventures. This includes return seat-belted coach transport between school and the camp location, plus all local transport needs.

Activities – Exciting outdoor activities including canoeing, team building challenges, beach carnivals, archery, marine biodiversity studies and coastal discovery bushwalks are facilitated by experienced outdoor education leaders. An ocean safety program presented at a local surf lifesaving club is a valuable component of most primary school camps.

Resources – All activity equipment, risk management documentation, emergency response plans and $20 million public liability insurance are provided as part of the camp package. Camp planning support and parent information nights are offered to all schools.

“Our recent year 6 camp was fantastic. We can’t wait to come back again to such a beautiful place. The discovery walk was perfectly paced with regular stops and the students learnt a lot from the surf safety activity. The Coastlife team get an A+ for being so patient with our chatter boxes! They were all friendly, efficient and professional leaders. Thank you!”

Carmela Brancato, Yarralumla Primary School

SECONDARY SCHOOL CAMPS

Secondary School Camps range from year 7 orientation programs to ocean skills camps and leadership courses.

Coastlife Adventures work closely with the organising teacher to develop an experience that engages all participants and delivers the desired curriculum outcomes. Each multi-day program aims to strengthen teamwork and social bonds, teach outdoor recreation skills and reconnect students to the natural world.

PROGRAM INCLUSIONS:

Accommodation – A variety of accommodation options are available ranging from coastal camping in a national park, to simple bush huts or luxury cabin complexes. Many schools choose a combination of venues to maximise the outdoor experience for their students. In this situation students spend time at a base camp sleeping in cabins and one or more nights camping out in a nearby national park.

Catering – The Coastlife Catering Manager develops each program menu to match the style of camp. Camp oven feasts, gourmet barbeques and trangia meals are prepared for groups camping out. Delicious, healthy home-style meals are prepared and served at the cabin accommodation venues. All meals are prepared with fresh ingredients and are nut sensitive. Care is taken to prepare separate menus for students with special dietary needs.

Transport – All transport requirements are organised by Coastlife Adventures. This includes return seat-belted coach transport between school and the camp location, plus all local transport needs.

Activities – Camp activities are selected to fit each particular program theme. Camp activities offered to secondary schools can be divided into three categories.

1. Ocean Skills Activities including learn to surf lessons, stand up paddling, ocean kayaking, snorkelling and the signature “Tathra Rescue” program that teaches beach safety and surf rescue skills.

2. Teamwork Activities including raft building, flat-water canoeing, team initiative challenges and beach carnivals.

3. Outdoor Education Activities including archery, coastal discovery walks, marine science studies, canoe journeys and mountain biking.

Resources – All activity equipment, risk management documentation, emergency response plans and $20 million public liability insurance are provided as part of the camp package. Camp planning support and parent information nights are offered to all schools.

“It was wonderful to see the girls bond, new friendship groups being created and see the feeling of achievement on the girl’s faces when they succeeded in a challenge together. The Merici staff who attended our year 7 camp have all asked to go again – they felt that the Coastlife staff were so well organised that they had to do very little. They welcomed that. Food was wonderful, activities were rewarding and the Coastlife staff were excellent. Thank you for such a wonderful camp – we are looking forward to 2016.”

Megan Keogh, Merici College

JOURNEY-BASED EXPEDITIONS

Journey based camp programs are facilitated within the spectacular national parks of the south coast of New South Wales. Over several days students move from point A to point B whilst participating in different activities and camping at numerous locations. Journey-based expeditions are designed to test resilience, bolster independence and teach the importance of a cooperative endeavour. Students are removed from the comforts and distractions of their normal life and forced to connect to natural world. This total emersion means learning situations become simplified and the links between actions and consequences are clearer and far more meaningful.

PROGRAM INCLUSIONS:

Accommodation – An important part of a multi-day journey is learning the principals of minimal impact camping. During the program participants camp in tents or bivvy’s at secluded sites along the Wilderness Coast.

Catering – Nutritious and sustaining meals are prepared in trangias or camp ovens. Fresh vegetables and fruit are incorporated into every meal. Coastlife’s famous homemade muesli bars provide an extra energy boost whilst out on the trail.

Transport – All transport requirements are organised by Coastlife Adventures. This includes return seat-belted coach transport between school and the camp location, plus all local transport needs.

Activities – Journey-based camps focus on developing bush skills, strengthening leadership qualities and practising minimal impact camping. Designed for students with minimal expedition experience, these programs teach wilderness travel techniques and navigation, backcountry cooking, minimal impact camping, camp-craft and wilderness safety. Flat-water canoeing and lagoon crossings requiring the construction and use of a raft are incorporated into some programs.

Resources – All activity equipment, risk management documentation, emergency response plans and $20 million public liability insurance are provided as part of the camp package. Camp planning support and parent information nights are offered to all schools.

“The experience that Coastlife provides the students is wonderful. The level of challenge is perfect and for so many the journey is life-changing. As a teacher it is absolutely awesome to be able to share in the moment when a child achieves something that they thought was beyond them. “

Lynn Walker, Burgmann Anglican School
